The Project
In October 2007, Studio Acusticum, the new concert house in Piteå, was inaugurated. The ambitions for the house were high – a concert hall with world-class acoustics. When the house was completed and users and audience filled the space, it was obvious that these ambitions had been more than fulfilled.
Now, two years later, it is time to add the final, and crowning, component to the concert house. The space above the balcony will be filled with an internationally unique concert organ. Again, the ambitions are astronomical. “The never-before heard, the never before seen” is the theme for this unique organ construction that is now taking form, first at the Woehl workshop and later in Studio Acusticum. It will be an extraordinary instrument.
In June 2008, Luleå University of Technology invited tenders for the instrument. When the final date arrived, the expert group could establish that all the bidders were highly distinguished and that the tenders were of a high or very high standard. At a meeting on 22nd October 2008, a unanimous expert group decided to give the assignment to Woehl Orgelbau, Marburg, Germany.
